The John Rex Endowment invests in the development and support of activities, programs and organizations that improve the health of underserved people in Wake County.
Currently, the Endowment supports visible and measurable improvements in the health of children and youth by improving access to health services, by promoting healthy behaviors and by providing children with opportunities for growth and development. It was in this capacity in 2007, that the John Rex Endowment awarded Community Partnerships with a three-year, $300,000 grant to launch the Healthy Out of School Time (HOST) program. This innovative program works to increase the availability and quality of after-school and recreational programs in Wake County for children and youth with disabilities.
Today HOST continues to fight for the inclusion of children with intellectual or development disabilities in regular out-of-school programs and activities. The dedicated staff of HOST then provides the care providers of these programs with the supports needed to ensure success.
More recently, the John Rex Endowment made Community Partnerships’ new web presence a reality. After initially providing an Assessment Grant to fund a comprehensive needs assessment, the John Rex Endowment then awarded us with a Capacity Building Grant giving us the opportunity to respond to the needs and implement the strategies identified in the assessment.
With a focused mission, innovative thinking, and a knowledgeable and dedicated staff, the John Rex Endowment continues to help ensure that today’s children and youth will have a healthy tomorrow.
